If you
choose to buy property in Costa del Azahar, you will find
Alcossebre and its neighbour, Las
Fuentes (the fountain), are beautiful tranquil villages,
nestling amongst the orange and almond groves of the Costa Del
Azahar (known as The Orange Blossom Coast). Over
the years these two villages have really merged and almost
become one town.
Although a relatively unknown area it is easily accessible from
the airports of Reus (50 minutes drive) or Valencia (1 hour drive),
or a two hour drive from Barcelona. A new local airport is
planned in Castellon, which will make this area much easier to
travel to. As Alcossebre and Las Fuentes are in
a conservation area they have missed most of the
high rise development that can be found in the neighbouring
costas.
The marina at Las Fuentes is really where the
dividing line between the two villages occurs. You will find lots
of water based activities in Las Fuentes, whereas the countryside
surrounding Alcossebre is ideal for walking, bird watching
etc. A Bowling club has opened recently, tennis, squash, golf
and many other sporting activities are available either within
Alcossebre or Las Fuentes or else very near by.
Due to the position of these two
villages which are situated at the foot of a mountain,
the views from almost every spot are great, and if you travel to
the top of the mountains, then the views are absolutely
breathtaking.
The whole area is a delightful mixture of ancient
and modern, mountains and countryside, beaches and small coves. All
the beaches in the local area are E.E.C. approved. The beaches are
gently shelving and even in the height of summer are very rarely
crowded.
The two villages have a very good choice of
restaurants, tapas bars and bistros, all within walking distances.
Many of these boast splendid views over the sea.
You will find that although Alcossebre is a quiet
village, it has all the shops that you should need. There is a
pharmacy, a doctor, small supermarkets, green grocers, bakery,
electrical shops etc. For those of you who want nightlife, this can
be found, but the nightlife here would not suit those looking for
'wild nights'.
Alcossebre is still a
traditional village, and is very Spanish - just a few miles inland
from Alcossebre you can find lots of tucked away villages that
have hardly changed in centuries.

One thing that really benefits this area
is that due to the Government status of the area, it can never
get over-developed, and will always therefore remain the lovely,
quiet, select area that it is now. It is quite a popular
holiday destination for the Spaniards themselves, especially during
July and August - but even so it still remains quieter
than lots of other areas within Spain.
Some consider that there has never been a better
time to buy - The area is becoming better known, but can never
become too busy or overcrowded so prices are rising here, and with
the new airport planned, this could well prove a great investment
for yor new property to buy in Spain.
